The Recreation Department is continuing its collaboration with the Eastern Delaware County Stormwater Collaborative. The collaborative is a partnership of municipalities seeking a more efficient way for municipalities to solve stormwater issues. The collaborative partners include Yeadon, East Lansdowne, Sharon Hill, Collingdale, Glenolden , Darby Township, Darby Borough, Norwood, Morton and Upper Darby. Educational workshops are offered to our residents and employees in the following areas: pollutant reduction, rain garden installation, rain barrel installation, tree planting and environmental classroom studies for schools. The Recreation Department is also collaborating with the Yeadon Library on the Healthy Yeadon fitness program. The library is currently offering yoga and chair aerobics. This spring’s offerings will include a walking program and a healthy food preparation program offered by the Penn State Cooperative Extension and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). The nutrition education classes will be offered in a series of six one-hour workshops to be held at the library. Participants will receive a course completion certificate from Penn State and other goodies to help them continue on the path to healthy eating.
The Yeadon Borough Recreation Committee is in the process of planning its programs and activities for 2019. The annual Flag Day celebration will be held on June 8th at our beautiful Kerr Field. There will be entertainment for all ages, games, prizes, food, informational tables and
The annual Yeadon Community Cleanup will be offered as a collaborative effort with the Office of the Mayor and Darby Creek Valley Association (DCVA). This collaborative effort will allow us to include more organizations and have a greater impact in our community. This event will be held in the spring, details to follow.
Camp Garrett will be offering registration and the opportunity for scholarships. The registration will be held at Borough Hall, the date to be determined. Be sure to check the Borough website for more information or visit www.garrettwilliamson.org/campgarrett/. Camp Garrett is a wonderful 8 week summer opportunity for youth 6-15 years of age.
