Villanova University providing ReachOut – a program for seniors to reduce isolation called through connections with student volunteers.
The main goal is to help decrease the feeling of social isolation among seniors. Volunteers, mainly nursing majors, contact an older adult partner approximately once weekly for 20-30 minutes to engage in social discussion. No medical advice is provided. Calls continue weekly or at a mutually agreed upon frequency between the older adult and student. Currently ReachOut receives referrals from self-referrals, primary care practices, insurance companies, and senior centers.
Visit the ReachOut website for additional information.
